The prompt for this project was to design a mixed-use housing complex for workers in Morro Bay, CA. As it is centrally located near the bay and industrial areas of the city, I wanted to maximize the connection between residents and tourists to create a lively central courtyard, where fog and people alike can roll in. The entire ground floor is public use, including restaurants, markets, and services for the residents. Another goal I had was creating a large housing complex with the atmosphere of a small neighborhood. The apartment units are connected by skybridges that reinforce a sense of community on the interior, while residents feel an air of privacy within their units as their windows face out, towards the views.

"Architecture can't force people to connect; it can only plan the crossing points, remove barriers, and make the meeting places useful and attractive."
